Union cabinet clears Ballari–Chikjajur doubling project to strengthen rail connectivity
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the doubling of the Ballari–Chikjajur railway line, a key infrastructure project under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
Spanning 185 km, the line cuts across Ballari and Chitradurga districts in Karnataka and Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.
The initiative is aimed at boosting regional mobility, operational efficiency, and service reliability. It is expected to significantly enhance the movement of freight, particularly of key commodities like iron ore, steel, cement, fertilizers, and agricultural produce.
Apart from improving rail capacity, the multi-tracking project is aligned with India’s broader climate and economic goals. It will help lower logistics costs, reduce oil dependency, and cut down on CO2 emissions—contributing to the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
Andhra Pradesh partners with Cyient Foundation and AICTE to power startups
In a strategic effort to boost the startup ecosystem, the Andhra Pradesh government has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cyient Foundation and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The signing took place in the presence of Education and IT Minister Shri Nara Lokesh at his Undavalli residence.
The agreement envisions the creation of urban innovation clusters across the state, starting with Visakhapatnam. It seeks to embed entrepreneurial thinking within academic institutions while promoting intellectual property creation and fostering strong links between academia, industry, and investors.
As part of the initiative, i-CARE (Innovation Creation and Research for Entrepreneurship) and i-CAFE (Idea Creation and Auxiliary Facilities for Entrepreneurship) centers will be established, alongside IPR and Technology Transfer Cells in engineering colleges. Planned activities include boot camps, hackathons, innovation fairs, and mentorship sessions.
The Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) will lead the program’s implementation.
